Angelok is a story of love and death, of fighting something you could never hope to overcome. Yet the prospect of a bad ending doesn’t make fighting the wrong choice.

The story follows a captive girl who, like a puppet, is forced to play the role of Angelok, a figure of war and destruction on the other side of a band’s stage screen. A glitch in the program controlling the Angel allows her to send her final messages and say goodbye

"not all stories end well. stay strong. i love you"

But those messages are exactly what the protagonist, the band’s lead singer, needs to trace her location. Breaking through the video’s fourth wall, he flies into the stage screen and enters limbo, a space between reality and a realm outside time. Running past relics of war and death from different centuries, he frees the woman he loves at the cost of his own freedom.

The defining feature of this work is its form. It begins as a blend of live-action footage and stage visuals, but midway through, the video becomes an entirely computer-generated film, giving the footage that came before new meaning rather than leaving it behind. The live-action shots rhyme with the CGI imagery, the fragmented story begins to come together like pieces of a stained-glass window, and the reasons to watch it again build up, brick by brick, all the way to the credits.

My country is at war right now. I think I left a lot of my anger and sorrow over it in this work.
